Clause Library
Store and reuse standard contract clauses in your Clause Library for consistent drafting.
The Clause Library stores your pre-approved contract clauses for quick insertion into drafts. Build a library of standard terms your team can reuse.
Accessing the Clause Library
- Go to Templates page
- Click the Clause Library tab
- View, search, and manage your clauses
Why Use a Clause Library?
Benefits of maintaining standard clauses:
- Consistency - Same language across all contracts
- Speed - Quick insertion without retyping
- Compliance - Pre-approved by legal team
- AI Priority - Your clauses appear first in AI suggestions
When you use AI-assisted drafting, clauses from your library are prioritized over AI-generated suggestions. Build your library for better drafting results.
Clause Properties
Each clause includes:

| Name | Descriptive title |
| Type | Category (payment, liability, termination, etc.) |
| Content | The actual clause text |
| Risk Level | Low, Medium, or High |
| Standard | Whether this is your default for this type |
| Notes | Usage guidance or context |

Adding Clauses
Manually
- Click Add Clause
- Enter clause details:
- Name
- Type
- Content
- Risk level
- Mark as "Standard" if it's your default
- Click Save
From Contracts
Extract clauses from analyzed contracts:
- Open a contract detail page
- Go to Clauses tab
- Find a clause you want to save
- Click Add to Library
- Review and save
From Templates
Import clauses from templates:
- Open a template
- Select clause text
- Click Save to Library
- Categorize and save
Using Clauses in Drafts
Manual Insertion
- Open a draft
- Position cursor where clause should go
- Click Insert Clause
- Browse or search your library
- Click a clause to insert
AI Suggestions
When using AI-assisted drafting:
- Your library clauses appear first
- Marked with "From Your Library" badge
- Click to insert directly
- Or customize before inserting
Managing Clauses
Edit
Update clause content:
- Find the clause
- Click Edit
- Modify content or metadata
- Save changes
Editing a clause doesn't affect drafts where it's already been inserted. Changes only apply to future insertions.
Delete
Remove unused clauses:
- Click Delete on the clause
- Confirm deletion
- Clause is permanently removed
Set as Standard
Mark a clause as your default for its type:
- Edit the clause
- Toggle Standard Clause on
- This clause is suggested first for its type
Searching Clauses
Find specific clauses:
- Enter search terms
- Filter by clause type
- Filter by risk level
- Results update in real-time
Clause Versioning
Track clause evolution:
- New versions created on edit
- History preserved for compliance
- View version history from clause detail
Best Practices
- Review regularly - Keep clauses current with legal standards
- Mark standards - Identify your go-to clauses
- Add context - Use notes to explain when to use each clause
- Categorize consistently - Use standard type names
- Include variations - Have clauses for different negotiating positions
